The Mission of the Museum: The Lindsborg Old Mill and Swedish Heritage Museum celebrates and preserves the pioneering spirit of the Smoky Valley by educating, entertaining, and building community across generations so that history comes to life. Position Overview: The Executive Director will direct the operations and provide daily management of the Lindsborg Old Mill and Swedish Heritage Museum, ensuring the facility is well-maintained with collections and exhibits interpreted and preserved to the highest standards. The position is responsible for overseeing staff and volunteers, while also assisting donors and visitors. The Executive Director will direct philanthropy, manage fundraising campaigns, and assist with the development of strategic plans.

Required Qualifications: ● Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred● Minimum 3 years supervisory experience, non-profit organization preferred● Proven skills in development, fundraising, financial budgeting, strategic planning, and grant writing● Strong team player with excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills● Requisite knowledge and cultural awareness of Swedish-American heritage and Kansas historyNote: While these qualifications are not mandatory, they will significantly set a candidate apart, showcasingadvanced expertise and skills that align with the Museum's goals. Candidates with these qualifications will bewell-positioned to handle the Museum's evolving needs and contribute to its growth and success.Responsibilities:Development & Community Relations: The Executive Director is the primary development officer for the museum and is expected to devote no less than 50% of their time to the following:● Establish and maintain relationships with private, corporate, foundation and government funding communities ● Cultivate donors and philanthropic foundations and steward major gifts ● Ensure that annual grants are filed, funded, used and appropriately reported● Oversee direct solicitations including revenue-generating membership program, end-of-year giving, and special gifts● Serve as the primary advisor for the Museum's special event fundraisers, including direct supervision of patron solicitations● Research, write, and review grants to ensure continued maintenance of facilities and exhibits● Develop initiatives to enhance the Museum’s local, regional, and state presence and expand its donor base● Serve as the primary spokesperson of the Museum, representing the Museum to donors, partners, media, and the broader community (local, regional, and national partners)● Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, foundations, corporate sponsors, community leaders, educational institutions and government agenciesThe remaining portion of the director's time will be devoted to the following three areas of responsibility:Operations Leadership: ● Oversee Museum staff, including but not limited to events, programs, facilities and customer experience● Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and mission-driven organizational culture and accountability ● Supervise marketing efforts such as press releases, newsletters, advertising, social media, and public presentations● Supervise all operational aspects including the annual budget and financial reporting, fundraising, marketing, exhibition planning, employee and volunteer management, facility rentals, and community outreach● Oversee building safety and security for visitors, staff and artifacts● Ensure that preventative maintenance and cleaning of the facilities and grounds occur regularly, working with appropriate staff, contract vendors, local municipalities and volunteers● Supervise Museum staff and contract personnel, assign and monitor tasks, conduct annual evaluations, interpret and enforce personnel policy and hire/terminate employees● Maintain ethical conduct, propriety, discretion, and adherence to the Museum's employee handbook and policies as well as the Museum's nonprofit bylaws, at all timesBoard Management: ● Attend all Board and committee meetings as an ex officio, non-voting member, facilitating remote access as needed and reporting upon request at board meetings on museum activities and finances● Report regularly to the Board Chairperson on Museum activities and finances● Work closely with the Board to ensure effective governance and communication● In collaboration with the Board, develop and execute a strategic plan to support the Museum's mission and goals● Identify and implement Museum priorities consistent with Board-approved policies● Work with the Board Chairperson to recruit and train new Board Members regarding acquisitions, gifts and bequests in support of the Collections CommitteeNote: The Board of Directors will conduct an annual evaluation of the Executive Director based on previously agreed-upon measurable goals.Exhibitions and Programs: ● Oversee the curation, development, and maintenance of exhibits and collections● Work with relevant staff to establish a calendar of events and exhibitions for the Museum, ideally for least two years in advance● Coordinate rotating exhibits for the Museum’s galleries, ensuring engaging and relevant programming that attracts new and retains established visitors● Collaborate with local historical researchers to ensure exhibits accurately reflect the Smoky Valley’s history● Research and manage merchandise needs at the Museum Store
