KMA has established this scholarship program to facilitate the advancement of museums in Kansas by enhancing the professional skills of museum personnel. This program provides direct financial support to individual members to participate in workshops, conferences and classes that they would not otherwise be able to attend.
Who is eligible?
- Any current Individual Member of KMA (except Scholarship Committee members).
What costs will the scholarship cover?
- Scholarships may cover registration fees, transportation (.25 cents per mile for private vehicle; rental car allowed if total cost is comparable to private vehicle; economy airfare rates only) and lodging.
Can I attend any workshop, conference, or class?
- Workshops, conferences, or classes should enhance your skills or expertise as they relate to your present or prospective museum responsibilities.
How much can be awarded?
- Up to $300 can be awarded per scholarship.
How will the scholarship be paid?
- Scholarship recipients will be notified and paid directly. Recipients must submit an itemized list of expenses and all original receipts within 30 days following the workshop, conference or class. Funds awarded must be used for the specified purpose. Any unused funds must be returned to KMA within 30 days following the workshop, conference or class.
How do I apply?
- Complete this form.
- Make three copies of the completed application form.
- Make three copies of the brochure, flier or announcement that describes the workshop, conference or class.
- Send application with all materials to: Kansas Museums Association, P.O. Box 782620, Wichita, KS 67278-2620.
When will the scholarship be awarded?
- The Scholarship Committee meets quarterly (January, March, May, July, September & November) to review applications. Applications must be received by the first of the month; scholarships must be submitted at least 45 days prior to the professional development opportunity. Under special circumstances, the Scholarship Committee Chairperson may schedule additional review sessions.
Who will judge the scholarship application?
- The KMA Board of Directors will appoint three members of KMA to serve on the Scholarship Committee. The committee determines scholarship recipients and award amounts. Decisions of the committee are final.
Are there strings attached?
- Recipients must share what they learn with their KMA colleagues. Mechanisms for sharing include, but are not limited to, writing newsletter articles or technical leaflets, presenting workshops or annual conference sessions and serving as a resource for direct consultations. In addition, recipients must submit an itemized expenditure list and all original receipts.
