Collections Manager (Johnson County Museum)
Responsibilities: The Collection Manager is responsible for the physical control of all museum collections/loans and the origination/maintenance of the associated legal documents and computer database records; responsible for all environmental monitoring of museum locations where artifacts are exhibited and stored; responsible for collecting data and research associated with museum artifacts, archival material and photographs in the Museum’s collection. Support visitors services on Saturdays and as needed.
Requirements: Education: Bachelor’s degree in American Studies, History, or Museum Studies. Preferred: Master’s degree in American Studies, History, or Museum Studies. Professional Experience: Required: One to two years’ experience working with museum collections in an internship or profession setting plus knowledge of Chenhall’s “Nomenclature” and museum registration practices. Preferred: One year experience working with museum collection relational databases.
Required Skills: Attention to detail, including analytical and research skills, ability to interpret data, ability to conceptualize, and ability to write formal recommendations based on findings. Written communication skills, including business and report writing, summarizing and editing skills. Verbal communication skills including presentations to individuals and small groups; time management skills including the ability to work on multiple concurrent projects and meet specified deadlines. Builds positive internal and external customer relationships and is committed to customer satisfaction; assumes responsibility for solving customer problems and ensures commitments to customers are met. A self-starter who can work independently and in team environments. Proficient in MS Office and Past Perfect. Will need to successfully pass a criminal and driving background check. EOE
